Time

Time is the great equalizer. Time doesn’t care about your race, color, religion, politics, job, kinks, class, social status. Or any other thing we use to classify or divide ourselves. We’re all dealt an unknown amount of time. A literal deadline.

We spend the currency of time equally. It passes the same way for all of us.

Although one of my favorite works of fiction, Einstein’s Dreams, challenges that.

Anyway, we wrap our emotions, anxieties and hopes around that unit of measure so it feels” like time is going by quickly or slowly. But a second is a second, a day is a day, etc. It might be the only constant we all have?

We think about possible future scenarios, and revisit the past. Often those past thoughts focus on the mistakes we’ve made or regretting the things we did not do. And the future thoughts focus on the things that we are worried about.

We do this poorly constructed time travel often, at least I do.

If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.

Lao Tzu

One of the reasons I don’t write more often is that I do not have the time”. That’s what I tell myself, and maybe others. But it’s not that, it’s that I haven’t prioritized writing, and I am time traveling too much.

I haven’t quite gotten over these hurdles, but I am aware of them, and hoping to write more often. I’ll try by reflecting on what I’m reading, and being present enough to formulate a quick post, like this.

Consider this my note to self.
