Use Ugly Sketches

Eppler’s first point is contradictory but so true, in my experience. If you want to find, discover, collaborate, foster emergence, then use a visual that is unpolished.

A napkin sketch. A doodle on a post-it. It naturally invites people to the conversation.

I really love the tactic of crazy 8’s. It’s fast and furious. Let’s people who “can’t draw” actually contribute to the design process, and lets new things emerge. The constraints of space on the page, and the timer, plus the “ugly drawings” really bring out great things.
